Discover Weather was developed in cooperation with Deutscher Wetterdienst (DWD) Germany.
In contrast with the GTS network, all data distributed in the WMO WIS network are well-described and searchable. When a user would like to get any data, they access the Discover Weather portal, type in search criteria and send these criteria to Discover Weather system. As a return, the Discover Weather web shows users all available products that match the searching criteria.
After the products are found, the user has several possibilities to retrieve them. When product instances are available directly in one of the data sources which have been integrated with Discover Weather, the user can download the data instance directly over HTTP or request delivery via e-mail or any of file transfer protocols (FTP, SFTP, SCP).
Users that want to regularly receive certain products may subscribe for data delivery to configurable destinations. Creation of subscriptions and management of destinations is allowed only to authorised users, thus the prerequisite is to register.
Data producers may use Discover Weather to describe their products and make them discoverable. They need to register too and once they are authorised they can use Metadata Editor to create or edit descriptions of their data.
