Title:
Monthly Standardized Precipitation Index - South-Central America
Created:
Thu Jan 28 00:00:00 GMT 2016
Detailed information
Product description:
The Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI-n) is a statistical indicator comparing the total precipitation received at a particular location during a period of n months with the long-term precipitation distribution for the same period of time at that location. The SPI is calculated on a monthly basis for a moving window of n-months, where n indicates the precipitation accumulation period, which is typically 01-,03-, 06-, 09-, 12-, 24-, or 48-months. Monthly SPI values for different accumulation periods are updated on the first days of the following month with data from the 'first guess' precipitation dataset provided by the Global Precipitation Climatology Centre (GPCC) on a regular grid with 1° spatial resolution. Long-term precipitation statistics are computed with a Gamma distribution for the period between January 1971 and December 2010 from the GPCC 'Full Data Reanalysis' (V6) precipitation dataset provided on a regular grid with 1° spatial resolution.
